PubMed: Search Like a Pro Online

PubMed is the National Library of Medicine's platform that provides access to over 35 million citations and abstracts of biomedical and life sciences literature. It is considered a core resource when conducting literature reviews in biomedical, public health and related disciplines.
 
This class will cover tips and tricks for building advanced searches in PubMed to create more efficient and strategic searches.  Competencies covered in this class are the PICO framework, Boolean operators, keyword searching, controlled vocabulary with an emphasis on MeSH, and citation searching.  In addition, participants will learn how to use PubMed’s newest feature, proximity operators, to develop more sophisticated searches.

By the end of this class, participants will be able to:
•        Apply a PICO framework.
•        Apply Boolean Operators.
•        Identify Search terms, including MeSH terms and Keyword terms.
•        Build searches using the “Advanced Search Builder”.

Prerequisite:  Attending either the "PubMed: Getting Started at Johns Hopkins" or the “Effective Database Searching” class is recommended.
