Navigating Secondary Data: Best Practices for Discovery, Evaluation, and Ethical Use Online

This class is designed to provide recommendations for navigating secondary research data. As such, the class will cover the differences between primary and secondary data, types of research data repositories (e.g., institutional vs. generalist & open access vs. controlled access), and how to contextualize secondary data within the scientific method (e.g., conducting a thorough literature review). By the end of this class, actively engaged learners will understand the framework needed to find, evaluate, and ethically use secondary data in research. This class is best for attendees who have completed at least one semester of graduate-level research methods and statistics.
